Henning Wiekhorst

Henning Wiekhorst - DBTV Hong Kong Correspondent

My name is Henning Wiekhorst. I am a German who was born in Italy 43 years ago. For the past ten years I have lived in Hong Kong but have lived in the United States, Netherlands, and Germany. On my educated professional side, I am a Mechanic and an Industrial Engineer (Master). Despite that, I also have something inside me that always draws me to art work. I'm not quite sure whether this is related to my grandfather having been a painter and my mother being a graphic designer!?! However, I took my first photographs when I was at the age of 14 and became passionate about photography. Meanwhile I'm recognized as professional photographer.

One of the big things in my life is motorcycling. No, not the racing stuff, it's the touring thing. I enjoy going to selected motorcycle meetings in the winter and camping outside at sub-zero degrees (Celsius!). Before I came to Hong Kong, I fulfilled a bike mileage of half a million kilometers! In Hong Kong, I don't drive. It doesn't really make sense here, but I still travel back to Germany twice a year for meetings. Being a biker is not only the driving, it's a lifestyle!!! - At least for me, that's important when we continue talking about Dragon Boating.

What fascinates me personally about Dragon Boating is the action and the colors of this sport. But more important for me is the attitude of the people I found being similar to that of my motorcyclists. It's that "sticking together", that "sitting in one boat".

What else is important? - Oh yeah, I wrote a book about Dragon Boating and I'm running the web site Dragon Boat Net as well as corresponding for the Dragon Boat Channel here in Asia.

You ask why? Come on guys, you know it! Once engaged in this sport in the one or other way, you are addicted to it and want to promote it, right?

So, see around
